Military Cross Stitch

Military Cross Stitch Patterns

We live in a different world since the events of September 11, 2001. Fortunately those events have sparked a renewed sense of patriotism and support for our military. Military cross stitch patterns for every branch of service including patches, logos, emblems, crests, seals, insignia, medals, and badges are now available. We now have access to specially dyed fabrics for stitching the designs as well as buttons suitable for embellishment.

One very nice design is available for any branch of service and can be personalized for an individual serviceman. This design is for display in a double frame along with a photograph of the soldier in uniform. One of the most touching designs available is a tribute to the more than 300,000 men and women buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

One designer is currently engaged in stitching an original design which she sends to members of the military serving overseas. Her design is free to anyone else who would like to join her in sending support to our troops.

Patriotic patterns depicting the American flag, The Statue of Liberty, and the bald eagle in brilliant red, white, and blue abound. Many cross-stitch web sites include free charts for flags and ribbons in support of our troops. Stitching and displaying a patriotic pattern would be an excellent opportunity for anyone to display pride in America.

One of the neatest things discovered during research for this article is a cross-stitch web site created for members of the military and their spouses. This is particularly nice because it provides military families the opportunity to communicate with those in other branches of service. The added benefit of having something else in common provides them with a pleasant diversion from the stress of having a loved one in harms way.

My search for military patterns uncovered a wonderful article about a medic serving in Iraq who does counted cross stitch when off duty to help her relax. There were pictures of her working on a rather large design along with one of her comments in which she mentioned the necessity of meticulous counting. She states that when she stitches it helps to keep her fingers nimble to enable her to do her job.

If someone in your family is serving our country, show your support by stitching an appropriate design for them. You may have a non-stitching friend whose son or daughter is in the military. Your military cross stitch design in support of them will be appreciated and strengthen your friendship.

Up to this point, I have deliberately avoided mentioning any specific company of designer. However, I feel that one company is to be commended for their support of our troops. In their sales newsletter of October 18, 2007, Nordic Needle included an article related to soldiers being treated for injuries at Walter Reed Army Medical along with links to several web sites.
